Living deliberately in the pursuit of freedom.
Meet Tazim Damji
Freedom from mindless eating. Freedom to make deliberate choices about the nutritious, organic edible plants you're growing.
Mission: to have everyone growing edible plants in their home, no matter how small their space is.
I help people who want to take deliberate action towards their health by installing edible gardens with an emphasis on the nutritional benefits of what's being planted and cooked. I combine my training as a certified Holistic Nutritionist specializing in organic:
π₯ -salad gardens
πΏ -herb gardens
π₯-vegetable gardens
π΅ -medicinal tea gardens
ALWAYS with added pollinator flowers! π π¦
I don't see myself in the stories I read on other people's about pages. I spent my entire life in large urban cities with no outdoor space of my own. From growing up living in an apartment in Houston, Texas when I was a child to living in a town house in Calgary, Alberta and then back to the Vancouver area where I was born and moved almost every year.
I see other people talk about their upbringing of baking things with their grandmothers and spending time in nature with their grandfathers. Swimming in lakes or ponds and harvesting apples from the tree to make apple pies with their moms.
Like many South Asian children of immigrants my extended family is large and spread out across provinces and states and countries. I didn't know any of my grandparents and felt largely alone and isolated as a child and teenager. In the spread out cities of Houston and Calgary I wasn't able to nor would I have been allowed to seek out nature spots or spend time learning from natural surroundings.
It wasn't until I moved to Vancouver in 2004 that I was able to really spend significant amounts of time walking, hiking, road-tripping in and through forests, on mountains, and in waterfront parks.
π©π½βπΎ Growing our own food, no matter what kind of access we have to stores and farmer's markets is one of those skills that has so many benefits - tangible and intangible. I find that my anxiety is eased whenever I'm out in the garden or growing herbs indoors. I even find that I feel less stressed when I talk to others about gardening!
After taking a permaculture design course I wanted to be able to practice my skills and experiment in the garden on a larger scale. Luckily, I was soon able to get one of the coveted spots in a local community garden.
I knew that I wanted to be able to show others the wonders of gardening and needed to find a way to make it more a part of my life. Becoming a garden coach/consultant seemed like the next logical step! π±
